The 52nd season's repertoire spans the past three hundred years of operatic development, from Radamisto, a fine example of opera in the baroque style composed during Handel's London years, to the contemporary and provocative realism of Kaija Saariaho's Adriana Mater, first performed in 2006. In between these two points are three classics, The Marriage of Figaro, Falstaff and Britten's 20th century masterpiece Billy Budd. In his last year as the Opera's General Director, Richard Gaddes has pulled out all the stops in terms of artistic and musical direction, as well as drawing upon some of the world's finest vocal talent.
